The occasional crafter writtencast post 1.2

Hi everyone!!!

I’ve talked about in my last post about doing a “writtencast” here on the blog to update you about what I’ve been doing and sharing my crafty plans for the beggining month, other than just sharing my finished projects. Last time I shared what I’ve finished knitting, what I’ve been working on and what I planned to start, today I’ll share what I’ve been spinning and what I’ve been sewing.

This past month I’ve been spinning a braid of polwarth and lyocell (50/50%) from Regenbogenwolle, Polwarth is a sheep breed that was developed in New Zealand by crossing Merino and Lincoln sheep, and Lyocell is a form of tencel, which is basically processed cellulose, and the dyer indicated that it’s a mix of tencel and seacell fiber, tencel being originated in wool pulp and seacell in seaweed.

This fiber was a dream to spin, it’s fine, shiny and really easy to draft, you only had to be carefull with the shortness of the staple, I did drop my spindle a few times because I got carried away and started drafting much more faster than I ought too. This skein is not washed yet, I’m expecting it to puff out a bit, Polwarth is supposed to do that in the wash. Other than this I’ve been spinning, and I’m going to continue spinning a few rolags, two from Fondant fibre and others from Merino fiber from Dona Maria, that I decided to blend and make rolags to try out my hand carders. I’m going to ply these rolags with silk from a silk hankie also from Dona Maria. I was really anxious to get these silk hankies done, I really don’t like spinning them, they’re way too grabby.

For next month I’m not yet decided what I’ll start spinning, I’ll either begin spinning for another skein of sock yarn with this BFL/Nylon fiber from Hilltop cloud or I’ll start my December spinning project for the Ewe University 2015 year of the sheep, this Romney Marsh fiber from Sara’s Texture crafts.

For sewing, I’ve been working on the second portion of my #make2along for the Tiny Paper Foxes podcast, it’s the Belladone dress from the Deer and Doe pattern company. I already finished it but I’ll hold on sharing the finished pictures until I get the cardigan done too. Other than this I have a few sewing projects I started a few months ago and still need to complete: a few patchwork project bags that I need to quilt and assemble, a pair of Tap shorts that need hemming. I already showed you the Bruyére shirt, also from Deer and Doe that I finished earlier in the month.

Other than these projects that need completion I want to make a muslin of the McCall’s M6649 pattern, I got this pattern to make as the project for the Craftsy class one pattern many blouses, and it looks like a great pattern to make, with a few variations included already, even without trying the pattern alterations explained in the class. I never have sewn anything by McCall’s so I’d like to first try out the muslin to figure out if I need to change anything other than the bust dart placement. I also want to make another pair of Ultimate trousers from Sew over it, using a more “regular” fabric so I can wear them more often. I haven’t decided if I’ll do any modifications, I think it will depend on the give of the fabric, I might sew the exact same size as before and adjust were needed.

About the stash enhancements for this month, I’ve been trying to control my purchases and use more what I already have around, and I’ll keep doing this because I already have yarn and fiber for a ton of projects, but still I have some things to show you:

I have enhancements from this last month and the end of September: sock yarn from ALDI, a skein I got from Filomena from Yarn Adventures because I thought it would go nicely with other colors in my stash, but I’ve changed my mind meanwhile (I’ll get a project for it I’m sure), and the new yarn from Ovelha Negra, Amélia (in colors 9, 30, 34 and 42). For the fiber stash, I’d signed up for the color club from Sara’s texture crafts a while ago and received September (BFL/silk), October (Falkland/rose) and added a orphan braid she was having a sale on (Exmoor Blueface). I also have a project bag I won on the Ewe University podcast, from the Halcyarn etsy shop.

So let’s get to work, I hope to have something to show you later in the month 😉

No meu último post falei-vos que ia começar a escrever um “writtencast” aqui no blog para vos manter actualizados acerca daquilo que tenho feito e partilhar os meus planos de trabalho para o início do mês seguinte, em vez de apenas partilhar os projectos que vou terminando. No último post partilhei o que tenho feito em tricot, e o que planeio começar e hoje vou partilhar o que tenho estado a fiar e a costurar.

Este mês que passou tenho fiado uma trança de fibra polwarth e lyocell (50/50%) da loja Regenbogenwolle. A lã Polwarth é de uma raça de ovelha desenvolvida na Nova Zelândia através do cruzamento de ovelhas da raça Merino e Lincoln, e o Lyocell é uma forma de fibra tencel, que é basicamente celulose processada. A tintureira indica que é uma mistura entre fibra tencel e seacell, sendo o tencel originado em pasta de madeira e o seacell feito a partir de algas.

Esta fibra fiou que nem um sonho, é fina, brilhante e muito fácil mesmo de separar, o único senão foi mesmo ter que ter cuidado com o comprimento das mechas, pois são bastante curtas, deixei cair o meu fuso algumas vezes pois entusiasmei-me a fiar e separava a lã para fiar mais depressa do que deveria, acabando por deixar cair o fuso algumas vezes. Esta meada ainda não foi lavada e estou à espera que fique um pouco mais encorpada depois de lavar, já li várias vezes que a lã Polwarth costuma fazer isso na lavagem. Para além desta trança tenho estado a fiar alguns rolags, dois da loja Fondant Fibre e outros que fiz a partir de fibra de lã merino da Dona Maria, que decidi misturar e fazer rolags para experimentar as minhas cardas. Vou torcer estes rolags com um fio de seda que fiei a partir de um lencinho de seda, também da Dona Maria. Estava mesmo mortinha por acabar de fiar estes lencinhos, não gostei mesmo de os fiar, agarram muito e dificultam o trabalho.

Para este mês que começa ainda não me decidi acerca do que começar, ou começo outro fio de meias, usando esta fibra BFL/Nylon da loja Hilltop cloud ou então vou começar a trabalhar no meu projecto de fiação para Dezembro para o projecto 2015 year of the sheep do podcast Ewe University, a lã de ovelha Romney Marsh da loja Sara’s Texture crafts.

Quanto à costura, tenho estado a trabalhar na segunda parte do #make2along do podcast Tiny Paper Foxes, é o vestido Belladone da companhia Deer and Doe. Já o terminei, mas vou esperar para mostrar as fotos quando terminar o casaco que vou tricotar para o acompanhar. Para além do vestido tenho alguns outros projectos de costura que já foram começados há alguns meses e ainda tenho que terminar: alguns sacos de tricot em patchwork que precisam ser acolchoados e costurados e um par de calções Tap (não tem nada a ver com a “transportes aéreos portugueses”) que ainda precisam de bainhas. Já vos tinha mostrado a camisa Bruyére, também da companhia Deer and Doe, que terminei no início do mês.

Para além destes projectos que precisam de ser terminados, quero ainda fazer o teste do modelo McCall’s M6649. Ganhei este modelo com a compra da aula do Craftsy class “one pattern many blouses“, e parece um modelo fantástico para experimentar pois tem algumas variações que já estão incluídas, mesmo sem experimentar as alterações ao modelo que são explicadas na aula. Nunca costurei nada desta companhia, e por isso queria primeiro costurar o teste, não vá ser necessário modificar mais alguma coisa para além do posicionamento das pinças. Também quero fazer outro par de calças “Ultimate trousers” da loja Sew over it, usando um tecido “mais comum”  para que as possa usar mais vezes. Ainda não decidi se vou fazer alguma alteração em relação à última vez, acho que depende um pouco de como o tecido se comporta. Talvez costure exactamente o mesmo tamanho e depois ajusto à medida que for necessário.

Em relação ao aumento ao stash que fiz este mês, tenho tentado controlar as minhas compras, e usar aquilo que já tenho cá por casa e vai continuar assim pois tenho muita muita coisa, mas mesmo assim tenho algumas coisas a mostrar:

Tenho aqui adições deste mês e do final do mês passado: a lã de meias do ALDI, um fio que comprei à Filomena da Yarn Adventures porque achei que combinava com outros que tenho no stash, mas entretanto mudei de ideias quanto à combinação e o novo fio Amélia da Ovelha Negra (cores 9, 30, 34 e 42). De fibra, tinha assinado o clube da Sara’s texture crafts há algum tempo e recebi os meses de Setembro (BFL/seda) e Outubro (Falkland/roseira), e adicionei ainda uma trança orfã (Exmoor Blueface) em que ela estava a fazer desconto. Tenho ainda um saquinho que ganhei no podcast Ewe University e é da loja Halcyarn.

Pronto terminei, agora é meter mãos à obra e ver se tenho mais alguma coisa para vos mostrar até ao final do mês. 😉
