opari – Uma crafter Portuguesa com certeza

Oh well, I’ve done it again, I haven’t wrote in more than a month!!!
I thought I’d share what I knit for Christmas, it wasn’t a lot, but at least it was all ready in due time:

Back in September Ysolda Teague started releasing the knitworthy collection, which was finished by the beggining of December. The Cadeautje booties I knit for my boyfriend were from this collection, and I decided to knit a Opari hat from a Katia Merino Maxi leftovers I had in stash to gift my brother-in-law, who has been badgering me for hat for a while now. Sorry for the unmodeled shot, but gifts never get modeled shots unless I do it, it was either flat or the balloon I used for blocking.

I’ve also gifted my sister-in-law a hat and some yoga socks. I used a baby acrylic yarn, Rosarios4 Nanny, because my sister-in-law is a vegan. Surprisingly this yarn was quite nice to knit, it could have fooled you for a merino if it weren’t the lack of immediate warmth you feel when touching wool yarn. The patterns are Sirle from Suvi Simola for the hat, and Stirrup socks.

For my niece I knit a Burton bear cowl out of the Rosarios4 etnic leftover I had from the Cadeautje booties and a Randolph the Racoon, also in acrylic. He’s so cute, look at his super-hero pose:

I knit the cowl in the child size to get a size close to toddler, because my yarn was thinner, and I knit until the yarn was close to running out. Instead of seaming I grafted the top of the hood.

Before Christmas I had already finished my brother’s birthday sweater, the pattern is Redford by Julie Hoover and it was knit in Plassard Randonéé. I knit it pretty much as the pattern said, the only mod I did was to knit the sleeves in the round up to the armscye. As the side seam was not centered, there was no point in knitting the sleeves flat and then seaming them up.

I also finished a pair of Masonry mitts to gift a friend, out of some leftover Madelinetosh merino DK I had in stash. You can see what looks like a mistake on the wrist, but this is a bad graft. I had to make a bit of mitt surgery because I was running out of yarn, so I decided to make the wrists shorter. I cut the yarn a few rows before the thumb increases, and then frogged the wrists until I got enough yarn. I grafted the ribbed piece and the rest of the mitt, but I had some trouble getting the garter stitch to match. Anyhow for future reference and in case you need it too, here’s how you graft garter stitch. The project is here.

Pois pois, já não escrevo aqui há mais de um mês… Má blogger! Má blogger! Para compensar achei que iriam gostar de ver o que tricotei para oferecer nestas festas. Não foi muito, mas pelo menos ficou tudo terminado a tempo e horas.

Em Setembro a designer Ysolda Teague começou a publicar a sua colecção knitworthy, cujo lançamento só ficou terminado no início de Dezembro. Desta colecção já tinha tricotado as pantufas Cadeautje para o meu namorado, e decidi tricotar um gorro Opari para o meu cunhado. O coitado já me andava a pedir para lhe fazer um gorro há mais de um ano… A foto não tem modelo, as fotos de presentes geralmente só tem modelos quando eu as modelo, ou quando tiro uma apressada no dia em que ofereço a peça, por isso ou era sem modelo, ou modeladas pelo balão que usei para as bloquear.

Para a minha cunhada tricotei um gorro e umas meias para o yoga, usando um fio acrílico, o Rosários4 Nanny, porque ela é vegan. Surpreendentemente este fio até tem um bom toque, e facilmente pareceria uma lã merino se não fosse a falta do toque quente. Os modelos são o Sirle, da Suvi Simola para o gorro, e as Stirrup socks para as meias.

Para a minha sobrinha tricotei uma gola Burton bear com o resto do fio que sobrou das pantufas Cadeautje e um boneco Randolph the Racoon (é um guaxinim), também em acrílico. Está tão giro não está?

A gola foi tricotada no tamanho de criança para ter o tamanho adequado a dois anos, porque o meu fio era mais fino que o recomendado, e tricotei até o fio estar quase a terminar (por isso ficou mais pequeno que o suposto). Em vez da costura recomendada usei uma emenda em tricot (kitchener/graft) para o topo do gorro.

Antes do Natal já tinha também terminado a camisola para o aniversário do meu irmão. O modelo é o Redford da Julie Hoover, e usei o fio Plassard Randonéé. Não modifiquei quase nada, excepto as mangas que foram tricotadas em circular até ao sovaco. Como a costura lateral do corpo da camisola não era centrada não valia a pena manter a costura nas mangas, pois não iria ajudar nada na costura da cava.

Também terminei um par de mitenes para oferecer a uma amiga, o modelo é o Masonry mitts, e foram tricotadas com um resto de Madelinetosh merino DK que tinha guardado. No punho conseguem ver uma falha porque tive que fazer uma pequena “cirurgia” às mitenes. Estava a ficar sem fio e por isso decidi encurtar os punhos, para não desfazer as mitenes todas cortei o fio um pouco antes dos aumentos para o polegar, e desfiz o punho até achar que tinha fio suficiente, e depois realizei uma emenda em tricot, que era suposto ficar invisível, mas para o ponto jarreteira deveria ter feito assim, e não como é normalmente feita no ponto de meia.
