I’ve finished my hap! I’m in love with it:
This shawl has been following me for almost a year, being my goto project for flights and airports, as most of the times it was my only project in wood needles. My favourite type of needles are metal, I feel that they are faster, and that I don’t have to push my stitches along the needles, they slide by themselves. I have an Addi interchangeable set, and I’ve bought a few Knitpro Nova needles to fill in the sizes my set didn’t have and a few for the sizes I use more often. Yet for lace knitting I need to have wooden needles, you all know how much a drama it is to pick up a dropped stitch in lace…. Aaand I prefer to take this to the airport, as there is less chance of a pointy pair of sticks showing up on x-ray.
I did not fly that much last year, but this project came with me to Dublin, Hamburg and Luxembourg where I knit most of it.
To anyone that doesn’t know what a hap is, it’s a square or triangular (half) shawl from Shetland, which has what is described as traditional Shetland construction, in that the centre is commonly knit first and the stitches are picked up to knit a lace border. What gave me that last push to get it finished was KnitBritish podcast hap-along. The yarn I used was Malabrigo lace, which feels like a cloud! This color is Applewood, and it is a beautifyl taupe-light rose. If you’d like to have more details about my project, have a look at my page on ravelry

Acabei o meu xaile hap, e eu adoro-o!
Para quem não sabe o que é um xaile hap, é um xaile com uma construção tradicional das ilhas shetland. Tem um quadrado ou um triângulo (meio xaile) no centro, que normalmente é feito em primeiro lugar, e depois são apanhadas malhas na lateral para tricotar a barra rendada.
Este xaile está nas agulhas há quase um ano, pois é o meu projecto especial para vôos e aeroportos porque normalmente é o único projecto que tenho em agulhas de madeira. O meu tipo favorito de agulhas são as de metal, acho que são mais rápidas e as malhas deslizam das agulhas sem grande dificuldade. Tenho um conjunto de agulhas intercambiável da Addi e mais algumas Knitpro Nova para os tamanhos que o meu conjunto não tem, e alguns dos tamanhos que uso mais. Mas para tricotar pontos ajourados prefiro usar agulhas de madeira, se alguma vez vos caiu uma malha num trabalho ajour devem saber a dor de cabeça que é reparar a malha caída. E prefiro usar este tipo de agulhas para passar a segurança do aeroporto, pois há menos probabilidade de um par de pauzinhos afiados serem visíveis no raio X.
Não é que tenha viajado assim tanto no ano passado, mas este projecto já visitou Dublin, Hamburgo e o Luxemburgo. O que finalmente me deu o icentivo para o terminar foi a hap along do podcast KnitBritish. Deêm uma olhada no hashtag #hapalong no instagram para verem mais haps maravilhosos!
