Olá Olá

Confesso-me uma fã devota da série The Great British Sewing Bee  e tenho já uma grande colecção  dos livros da série para o provar. Gosto de todos, têm uns capítulos introdutórios excelentes, com toda a informação necessária para começar a costurar, e os projectos são sem dúvida super usáveis. Eeee mesmo assim de uma forma ou outra acabei por nunca fazer nada deles…  😳

Decidi que estava na hora de finalmente fazer alguma coisa e escolhi dois projectos do último livro. Comecei pelo breton top.

É um top simples, com um estilo clássico. Não fiquei muito contente com a forma como me assenta, as dimensões descritas no modelo indicam que tem imensa folga no peito e ombros, e por isso fiz o tamanho abaixo. Mas mesmo assim acho que não é para mim.

O top incluía uma bainha bastante larga com “racha” , mas isto fazia com que ficasse demasiadamente curto e por isso decidi fazer uma bainha normal, com a agulha dupla. O tecido é um jersey de peso médio da The Sweet Mercerie e mesmo não gostando da forma como me fica as minhas capacidades de alinhar riscas estão no ponto!! 😀

O segundo projecto que escolhi fazer foi o Japanese-style top.

Este top também tinha muita folga nos ombros e peito e por isso cortei um tamanho abaixo, alargando para o meu tamanho nas ancas. O tecido é um jersey mais leve, também da The Sweet Mercerie, adoro a combinação desta “mélange”  com este género de camisola – uma combinação perfeita. Fiquei super contente com este top, a foto do projecto no livro não me inspirava muito mas acho que saiu muito bem.

E porque não queria deixar de incluir esta camisola no blog, mas também não tinha vontade de fazer um post só para ela, deixo aqui a foto da camisola que tricotei para o T. como presente de São Valentim. Foi um teste ao modelo Ryo da Reiko Kuamura:

Tricotei-a usando um fio da Tricots Brancal que já comprei há anos (o fio é o Austrália), mas fiquei desapontada com a qualidade. O fio tem muito pouca torção para um fio de lã merino, já tive que desborbotar a camisola, mesmo tendo só algumas utilizações. Também acho que deveria ter feito as mangas um pouco mais longas, o T. tem o (mau) hábito de arregaçar as mangas, o que fez com que os punhos ficassem todos esticados e acho que isso tornou as mangas mais curtas (tenho a ideia que ao esticar as malhas na horizontal isso acaba por fazer com que diminuam no comprimento). I’ve allways been a devoted fan of The Great British Sewing Bee and have quite the collection of accompanying books. They’re fantastic, the introductory chapters are clear and provide most of the “beggining to sew” information you’ll need, and the projects are definitively wearable, still somehow I never managed to make anything out of them. 😳

I finally decided to put the last of the books to good use and sew two of the projects. I started with the breton top.

It is a simple, classical style top. I’m not in love with the fit, looking at the finished measurements it had a lot of positive ease at the shoulder – bust area, so I cut a size down, but still I don’t think it suits me.

The top included a wide split hem, yet this made the top too short for me, so I just made the regular twin-needle hem. The fabric is a medium weight jersey from The Sweet Mercerie and even though I don’t like the fit of the top my stripe matching skills are flawless 😀

The second project I decided to try from the book is the Japanese-style top.

Again this had a bunch of positive ease at the shoulders, so I decided to cut a size smaller at the bust and then widen to my size at the hip. The fabric is a lighter jersey from The Sweet Mercerie, I love the pairing of this “mélange” with this pattern – a match made in heaven. I’m super chuffed with this, the project photo in the book wasn’t a favourite but it did turn out quite cute.

And because I didn’t want to leave it unblogged, here’s a photo of the sweater I knit  for T. for Valentine’s. It was a pattern test for Reiko Kuamura, the pattern is Ryo:

I knit it using yarn from Brancal I bought years ago (Australia yarn), but I’m a bit disappointed in the quality. I think the twist is a bit too loose for a merino yarn, I already had to de-pill the sweater with only a few uses. I should have made he sleeves a bit longer, T. has the (bad) habit of hiking up his sleeves which stretched out the cuffs and I think that it also made the sleeves shorter (in my mind if you stretch stitches horizontally they’ll loose lenght).
