The occasional crafter writtencast post 1

Hi everyone!!!

I’ve been thinking about starting a podcast to substitute/complement my blog posts, since, if you have a blog, you know these take a while to write and prepare. Yet, I’ve reconsidered, I’m a bit camera shy and I don’t have any nice equipment, and I’m guessing that learning to edit video and figuring out where and how to post them would take me even more time. So I decided to remain in this written format for the meanwhile. What I like about podcasts is getting to know what the hosts have been knitting or crafting, what they’ve been adding to their stash and what are they planning to do next. So I thought of doing the same here once per month, to keep you updated on what I’ve been doing this month and what am I planning to do on the next one. So lets dive right into the knitting projects:

What have I finished (and haven’t blogged about yet):

Other than the Mares shawl and Lee beret I’ve already blog about, this month I finished (or blocked) two pairs of mittens and a pair of socks. The mittens I made are to keep on hand for little gifts, or if anyone asks me to knit a pair for them. The bramble basket mitts were made using the pattern from Svetlana Volkova, with the new yarn Amélia from Ovelha Negra in the colorway 19. I made a few modifications because I thought the mittens felt too short, so I added a chart repeat in the wrist and spaced the gusset increases to every four rows. The pair of two hands make a snowflake were made from a pattern from Mari Chiba and they’re made out of leftovers I had on stash, a orange DMC woolly and a grey SMC select extra soft merino fino. I don’t think I made any modifications to these, but I think that the cuffs are a bit short. I also made a pair of Vestigial socks for myself, the pattern is from Beatka Jezek and I used a Baerenwolle yarn  that is no longer available. If you’d like to bully Vicky on to repeating the colorway 😉 because it’s gorgeous, it’s called bush fire. I’ve also finished a secret swap gift that I can’t show so keep tuned in for that.

What have I been working on:

I’m still slogging on with my mother’s cardigan, the pattern is Fireside from Amy Christoffers and I’m using Katia Merino classic. I’ve finally finished the body and I’m currently working on the buttonband before I enter sleeve island 😐 . I was hoping to have it done by Christmas but I’m not sure, it’s so large!!! I’ve also started a pair of socks for T., these are the Symmetry socks by Stephanie van der Linden, and I’ll be using Katia Olé Socks and Drops Fabel. This color combination was a happy accident, despite being quite similar to one of the pictures in the book, I was planning on combining the Olé Socks with a grey but I had this brown on my desk when I pulled it out and I thought it would go much nicer with it than with the grey. I’ve also been working on a pair of endpaper mitts for myself, the pattern is free from Eunny Jang, and I’ve been knitting them out of leftover Noro Kureyon Sock and Rosarios4 Merinoland. Other than these I’ve been working dutifully on my sock scrap blanket, I’ve reached 50 squares but I’m trying to get 80 squares done before the end of the year:

What I’ve got planned:

November is the month of the Icelandic sheep in the Ewe University podcast 2015: year of the sheep challenge. Having already spun it before, I was planning on knitting a Linney cardigan from Amy Christoffers out of Istex Lett Lopi. I’ll probably enter with it too to the Tiny paper foxes podcast make2along, combined with a sewing project I’ll talk about later. If I have the time I’ll also start a Nanook cardigan, by Heidi Kirrmaier using Retrosaria’s Beiroa yarn. I’ve been test driving this yarn as a part of the KnitBritish knitlocal breed swatch along and I’m planning on writing up my feelings about it here too. So keep your eyes peeled for that as well.

Oooff no wonder podcasts usually get to 40-60 mins, who would have thought I have so much to talk about, and I didn’t even start with spinning, sewing or stash 😯 . I think I’ll cover those in a different writtencast post.

Olá Olá!!!

Já há algum tempo que ando a ponderar começar a fazer um podcast para substituir e/ou complementar este blog, pois como já sabem se também escrevem um, estes posts levam algum tempo a escrever e preparar… Mas reconsiderei, detesto ver-me e ouvir-me em gravações caseiras e não tenho equipamento de gravação decente. De qualquer forma, o tempo que me levaria a aprender a editar vídeo ou áudio e a perceber como e onde publicar as gravações provavelmente iria levar-me ainda mais tempo que escrever estes posts, por isso e por enquanto vou manter-me no formato escrito. O que eu gosto nos podcasts é estar a par do que as pessoas vão criando e onde vão buscar inspiração, ficar a conhecer novos fios e produtos e onde os encontrar, por isso pensei em fazer o mesmo aqui, pelo menos uma vez por mês, para vos ir mantendo actualizados acerca do que fiz no mês anterior e o que planeio fazer no mês seguinte. Vamos então começar pelos projectos de tricot:

O que terminei (e ainda não partilhei aqui no blog): 

Para além do xaile Mares e da boina Lee que já vos tinha mostrado, este mês terminei (ou apenas bloqueei) dois pares de luvas e um par de meias. As luvas foram feitas para ter um pequeno stock de presentes, ou se alguém me pede para lhes fazer alguma coisa para oferecerem. As luvas bramble basket são um design da Svetlana Volkova, e foram tricotadas usando o novo fio Amélia da loja Ovelha Negra na cor 19. Fiz algumas modificações porque achava as luvas originais um pouco curtas, por isso adicionei uma repetição do ponto ao cano e fiz os aumentos para a modelagem do polegar em cada quatro carreiras. O par de luvas two hands make a snowflake foi feito usando o modelo da Mari Chiba e sobras de fio laranja DMC woolly e SMC select extra soft merino fino cinza. Não tenho a certeza, mas acho que não fiz modificações a este modelo, mas acho o punho das luvas um pouco curtinho. Também terminei um par de meias para mim, usando o modelo Vestigial da Beatka Jezek. O fio que usei é da tintureira Baerenwolle mas já não está disponível, se quiserem chatear a Vicky para repetir a cor 😉 porque é linda, chama-se bush fire. Para além destes três projectos terminei um presente secreto para uma troca que não posso mostrar ainda, mantenham-se atentos!!!

No que tenho trabalhado:

Continuo a batalhar no casaco da minha mãe, o modelo é o Fireside da Amy Christoffers e estou a usar Katia Merino classic. Já terminei o corpo e estou a fazer a barra dos botões antes de entrar no Triângulo das Bermudas das mangas 😐 . Tenho esperanças de terminá-lo antes do Natal, vamos ver se consigo, é enorme!!! Comecei um par de meias para o T., o modelo é o Symmetry socks da Stephanie van der Linden, e vou usar fio Katia Olé Socks e Drops Fabel. Esta combinação de cores foi um acaso feliz, apesar de ser muito parecida com uma das fotos do livro, estava a planear usar o Olé Socks em combinação com um fio cinza, mas quando tirei o fio dos cestos onde os tenho guardados, o castanho estava na minha secretária e achei que ficaria muito melhor combinado que com o cinza. Tenho ainda trabalhado num outro par de luvas para mim, as  endpaper mitts da designer Eunny Jang. O modelo é gratuito. Estou a usar umas sobras de Noro Kureyon Sock e Rosarios4 Merinoland e comecei-as para praticar tricotar a duas cores. Para além destes projectos tenho estado a trabalhar afincadamente na minha manta de restinhos, cheguei aos 50 mas estou a tentar chegar aos 80 quadrados até ao final do ano:

O que tenho planeado:

Novembro é o mês da raça de ovelha Islandesa no desafio 2015: year of the sheep do podcast Ewe University. Como já a fiei antes, estava a planear tricotar um casaco Linney da designer Amy Christoffers usando Istex Lett Lopi. Provavelmente vou usá-lo também para entrar no desafio make2along do podcast Tiny paper foxes, em combinação com um projecto de costura que vos irei mostrar mais tarde. Se tiver tempo estou a pensar em tricotar um casaco Nanook, da designer Heidi Kirrmaier com o fio Beiroa da Retrosaria. Tenho andado a testar este fio como parte do desafio do podcast KnitBritish teste de amostras de raças locais e estou a planear escrever o que achei do fio por aqui, por isso mantenham-se atentos…. 

Ufa, não admira que os podcasts demorem sempre cerca de 40-60 mins, quem diria que tinha tanto para falar em projectos de tricot, e nem sequer comecei com a fiação a costura ou as novas adições à colecção de fios e fibras 😯 . Acho que vou deixar esses para um outro post do meu writtencast.
